A few of the thing that we found useful on our trip to Iceland
- The Icelandic currency is Krona and 1000 ISK is around £5.70 or $8 (USD), there is no need to take cash as everywhere accepts credit/debit cards (you may need to contact your provider to get a PIN for it).
- Most people speak English.
- The Summer months are mid-May/June – August/mid-September.
- During the summer months it does not get dark. There is 24/7 sunlight. Ideal for making the most of your trip
- Winter months are October – March.
- During the winter months there may only be 2-4 hours of sunlight a day.
- Bonus is their cheapest supermarket.
- Credit or debit card are taken everywhere in Iceland, so no need to take money.
- An average cup of (petrol station) coffee costs around 250-500 ISK.

- Icelandic Weather is very unpredictable
- Book well in advance for accomodation and trips as they get booked up quickly.
- Be prepared for four seasons in one day with the ever changing weather. Whis an average temperature in Reykjavik of 0°C in January and 13°C in July
- Dress in layers, this makes it easier to shed layers of clothing when it warms up and apply another when it cools down.
- Pack waterproof shoes, there is nothing worse than cold wet feet.
- Keep an eye on the weather and road conditions (Iceland Weather, Safe Travel Iceland or http://www.road.is/)
- There is no need to tip as the service charge is incorporated into the costs advertised.
- Drive carefully and stick to the speed limits that are clearly marked as the police are strict at enforcing limits and there are plenty of speed cameras.
- Know what F-Roads are when they are open or closed and if you require 4×4 (4WD).
- We would advise taking out the “Full” insurance if renting a vehicle as the winds can be strong and easily rip doors out of your hand breaking the hinges.
- The water is fine to drink, no need to buy water.
- Pack european power adaptors
